After Thunder Bay it was on to my old home town of Toronto , Ontario – but first a stop at in the “cottage” country of Muskoka. We flew GPS direct out of Thunder Bay . The route took us almost exclusively over water – Lake Superior , Lake Huron and Georgian Bay . As we approached the end of the Great Lakes crossing, ATC jokingly asked if we were glad to finally see landfall? I'm sure he was unaware of how much over water exposure we have ahead!!!!
Those who have followed our site will know about Muskoka from our visits last October. Muskoka is a bee hive of activity in the summer. Folks from all over North America search for property in this exclusive area. The tiny Muskoka airport is full of private jets and every other type of luxury aircraft. It is really a place out of the “Rich and Famous”.
Island Cottage in Muskoka, Canada
From Muskoka we made side trips to Tillsonburg (CNQ4), Midland (CYEE) and Peterboro (CYPQ). Our home base was Buttonville (CYKZ) in the Toronto area.
We spent almost 3 weeks touring around Ontario and visiting old friends. Much of our time was spent at my brother's cottage. We also had time to visit old friends, make new ones and spend time with relatives around Ontario .
Our Host Art – and friends in Midland …….
It was great to see everyone and be “Back Home”……Thanks folks
Garmin Panel Note.
Some eagle eyed pilots have noticed the RPM gauge indicating in the red on some of the cockpit pictures we have posted. Just to let you know, the Ovation 3 does not use the RPM readings on the Garmin panel but has an auxiliary gauge, lower left on the pilot's panel. (not shown in my pictures) This is required to support the modifications done to the prop; upgrading performance to 310hp. The Garmin has not been calibrated to read the RPM's with the prop mod. So thanks to those who have pointed this out and rest assured we are OK!!!!
