Well I guess I am the Captain; at least on board the airplane. I now consider myself a “young” 60 year old. A Canadian; born in Scotland. I have dreamed of flying since my teens. Finally at age 50 I was able to start flight training and earned my private pilots license in 3 months.
Shortly after completing my flight training I was transferred from Toronto to Bangkok by my long term employer American Standard Inc. I was originally Managing Director for the American Standard Sanitaryware business in Thailand and later became Managing Director responsible for South East Asia. Through my work I traveled extensively and became familiar and fascinated, particularly with Asian, people and culture.
Living in Thailand did not hamper my flying enthusiasm nor restrict opportunities to fly. I became a member of the Thai Flying Club shortly after arriving in Thailand.
I returned to Canada during several vacations to continue my flight training and development as a pilot. In 2003 I earned my IFR rating at ProIFR in Vancouver, British Columbia.
I now have just over 700 total hours flight time with more than 400 hours in our Mooney M20J aircraft.
Vajee Misakawan (Lec)
Lec is the co-pilot. She has recently resigned her position with the Royal Danish Embassy in Thailand to help organize and undertake the RTW trip.
Although she is not a pilot, Lec is very knowledgeable, helpful and essential as “co-pilot”. She has a keen interest in all aspects of aviation. Through personal effort she has learned about the aircraft equipment, navigation, communication, flight planning and procedures. She is a great asset in both pre flight and in flight activities and more than once has corrected my operational oversights.
Lec loves traveling and is very fond of visiting “out of the way” places in our airplane. She truly enjoys meeting people and is undertaking this trip to learn more about the cultures and people who make up our planet. She is very proud of her native Thailand and enjoys sharing her knowledge of Thai culture with everyone she meets.
